The Boy is Back In Town

The Boy from Elsewhere
The Boy from Elsewhere

Well, here we are.

Today, The Boy From Elsewhere is officially out in the world, and I’m sitting with that familiar, slightly surreal mix of feelings: nerves, excitement, gratitude, and the strong urge to make twelve cups of tea and stare out of a window for a bit.

I love to brood.

This book has lived with me for a long time. First as a chaotic fundraiser, then as an idea that wouldn't go away. Then it transformed into a mess of notes, then a bunch of research, and then as a story that slowly, stubbornly became itself.

I’ve known these characters in private for years. I know their rhythms, their silences, the choices they make even when I’d rather they didn’t. And today, they stop being just mine.

If you’re wondering what kind of story this is, here’s the truth of it:

It starts quietly. A boy wakes up on a beach in a small seaside town with no idea how he got there. On the other side of that town, a very different boy decides he's sick of being stuck in a rut, and pledges to take on the first challenge he finds.

The two meet, and from there it becomes a story about connection. About choosing to help. About found family, parallel worlds, secret histories, libraries, tunnels, and the strange bravery of caring for someone when reality itself starts to quake.

It’s sci-fi and fantasy, yes, but it’s also human. Tender. Romantic. Funny. Or, at least, my version of funny.

At its heart, this is a book about people showing up for each other.

Early readers have called it “a joyous, action-packed sci-fi adventure” and “a story of love and the power of friendship, with a sprinkling of timey-wimey stuff on top.”

I wrote The Boy From Elsewhere because I wanted the kind of story I needed when I was younger. Queer characters who are allowed to exist without being punished for it. Young people who are curious, kind, messy, and brave in small, everyday ways. A story that trusts its reader, and doesn’t demand you read it “correctly”.

So if you’ve been here for the whole journey, thank you. Truly.

And if you’re just arriving now, welcome! I hope you find something in this book that stays with you.
